PFFW PRESIDENT
Mahlon Mitchell
“We will once again have a Governor who fights along side us and helps to build up the middle class, not tear it down.”
Nov. 6 Election Gives Hope for a
New Day and Way
in Wisconsin
Brothers and Sisters: I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits. The holidays are upon us and there is no holiday gift that I can of think that could be better than having a fresh start for 2019! What I mean by fresh start is having a new Governor; somebody that we can work with and advance the interests of the men and woman around the state who protect life and property. The men and women who respond to medical emergencies and put their lives on the line everyday in our communities.
I have never been one to spike the football, and I remain so.
We have much work left to do. The PFFW Executive Board has just met and put together our list of legislative priorities for next session. We will be very busy trying to get back many of the benefits that we have lost over the last eight years; having the ability to bargain over health care plan and design is at the top of the list! But, just for one moment I would like us to celebrate a win and reflect on the hard work and the endurance it took to get here!
November 6 was a great day! Governor Walker was defeated. After eight years of attacks on workers and further enriching the wealthy, I have only one thing to say to Governor Walker, “You’re Fired!” Governor Walker went head-to-head with working people many times over the last eight years, but we never gave up, and the result on November 6 showed why we fight, and why we’ll continue to fight against those who support anti-worker policies.
Today is a new day. We will once again have a Governor who respects working people. We will once again have a Governor who recognizes that unions have been instrumental in the fight against poverty and inequality; we’ve seen far too much of both over the last eight years. And, we will once again have a Governor who recognizes that unions are critical in providing living wages, quality health care, safe working conditions and retirement security. We will once again have a Governor who fights along side us and helps to build up the middle class, not tear it down. I want to congratulate Governor Elect Tony Evers. I look forward to working with him.
I hope everybody has a safe and fun holiday season. Thank you for the support of your PFFW and I look forward to working for you here in Madison in this upcoming session!
